City of Louisville’s

Protect and Preserve Campaign

In addition to health and safety challenges, the COVID-19 pandemic has caused a huge jump in visitation to public lands, along with numerous issues associated with overuse, such as widening of trails or creation of new social trails. To address these challenges, City of Louisville Ranger Naturalists held a series of ten educational booths across the city in October and November to educate trail users about COVID safety and trail use and etiquette. Visitors to the booth could sign a pledge to respect and protect each other and the land to receive a free custom face mask with a map of Louisville’s parks and open spaces on it. Rangers issued more than 200 masks and contacted more than 300 residents with these informal trailside chats.
